Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu is a highly skillful martial art that involves the use of leverage, angles, pressure, and timing to get an opponent to the ground and control him/her, then forcing him/her to submit by applying chokes or joint locks—there is no striking (e.g., punches, kicks). Jiu Jitsu has two main forms, GI (wearing a kimono) and No-Gi (wearing a rashguard and shorts); No-Gi Jiu Jitsu is commonly called grappling. Originating in Japan, Jiu Jitsu was created to enable a smaller, weaker person to defend against, or even defeat, a larger and stronger opponent. Jiu Jitsu techniques can be learned and practiced by kids, adults, and seniors regardless of size, strength, or physical limitation—Jiu Jitsu can be enjoyed by everyone!

Jiu Jitsu is both a mental and physical workout that optimizes strength, endurance, balance, coordination, weight loss, and the ability to strategize and remain calm whilst under pressure—Jiu Jitsu is often referred to as chess for the body.

SELF DEFENSE

Self-defense generally involves the use of physical force to protect oneself and/or loved ones from the attack of an aggressor(s); using such force is generally justified if one has reason to believe one is in imminent danger. UJJA’s self-defense program—integrated with our Jiu Jitsu program—incorporates may lifelike drills and scenarios into the curriculum (e.g., schoolyard bullying, single and multiple attackers, attempted abduction, knife attack, stick/bat attack etc.).

Although the curriculum teaches students extremely effective reflexes and physical techniques for neutralizing an attacker(s), it also teaches students how be become more aware of their surroundings, to recognizes potential threats, and how to use words, body language, and other non-physical techniques in order to prevent or deescalate a tense confrontation. UJJA’s Jiu Jitsu students can enjoy this class at no additional cost!

Slide

My experience with Ultra has been nothing shy of epic. I was a walk-in off the street, never rolled on a mat once. Terrified? Yes. Petrified? Yes. Alexis and Pedro immediately calmed my nerves. The meticulous nature of the instructing from these two is something that fits both the whitest of white belts, and the experienced BJJ practitioner. Careful attention is paid to the curriculum, the class style and structure, and individual growth.

I’m so glad I decided to give Ultra a try. If you’re looking to meet new friends/family, challenge yourself mentally and physically, or just learn to better defend yourself, Ultra is a sure bet.
