WELCOME TO OUR ACADEMY!

Founded by Alexis Nixon and Pedro Serrano in 2020, the overarching goal of Ultra Jiu Jitsu Academy (UJJA) is to enrich the lives of students through the provision of quality Jiu Jitsu education and training. To augment this educational experience—and develop street readiness—UJJA also offers self-defense classes (based on Krav Maga curriculum).

Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu is a highly skillful martial art that involves the use of leverage, angles, pressure, and timing to get an opponent to the ground and control him/her, then forcing him/her to submit by applying chokes or joint locks—there is no striking (e.g., punches, kicks). Jiu Jitsu has two main forms, GI (wearing a kimono) and No-Gi (wearing a rashguard and shorts); No-Gi Jiu Jitsu is commonly called grappling. Originating in Japan, Jiu Jitsu was created to enable a smaller, weaker person to defend against, or even defeat, a larger and stronger opponent. Jiu Jitsu techniques can be learned and practiced by kids, adults, and seniors regardless of size, strength, or physical limitation—Jiu Jitsu can be enjoyed by everyone!

Jiu Jitsu is both a mental and physical workout that optimizes strength, endurance, balance, coordination, weight loss, and the ability to strategize and remain calm whilst under pressure—Jiu Jitsu is often referred to as chess for the body.

SELF DEFENSE

Self-defense generally involves the use of physical force to protect oneself and/or loved ones from the attack of an aggressor(s); using such force is generally justified if one has reason to believe one is in imminent danger. UJJA’s self-defense program—headed by black belt Bryin Taylor—is based on Krav Maga; an effective, modern, and dynamic self-defense and fighting system that incorporates may lifelike drills and scenarios into its curriculum (e.g., schoolyard bullying, multiple attackers, spousal abuse, attempted kidnapping/rape, knife attack, stick/bat attack etc.).

Although the curriculum teaches students extremely effective reflexes and physical techniques for neutralizing an attacker(s), it also teaches students how be become more aware of their surroundings, to recognizes potential threats, and how to use words, body language, and other non-physical techniques in order to prevent or deescalate a tense confrontation. UJJA’s Jiu Jitsu students can enjoy this class at no additional cost!

Fix My Game

To foster a deeper learning experience, we have dedicated time blocks within our schedule (usually after class or before open mat) during which students can gather on the mat and pose their Jiu Jitsu questions to the professors and/or the coaches, thus enabling students to:

Resolve Trouble Spots

Break down Competitive Matches

Collaborate and share ideas and new techniques

Optimize thier jiu jitsu game

My experience with Ultra has been nothing shy of epic. I was a walk-in off the street, never rolled on a mat once. Terrified? Yes. Petrified? Yes. Alexis and Pedro immediately calmed my nerves. The meticulous nature of the instructing from these two is something that fits both the whitest of white belts, and the experienced BJJ practitioner. Careful attention is paid to the curriculum, the class style and structure, and individual growth.

I’m so glad I decided to give Ultra a try. If you’re looking to meet new friends/family, challenge yourself mentally and physically, or just learn to better defend yourself, Ultra is a sure bet.

I have been fortunate enough to train and visit many BJJ gyms and Ultra Jiu Jitsu in Valencia has been one of the very best. The gym environment is very welcoming and the instructors treat every member as part of the team, whether they are hobbyists or world-class competitors. The gym itself is very clean and has changing rooms, showers and other amenities that make things convenient. But most importantly, the level of instruction is world-class and their curriculum is one of the most comprehensive yet straight-forward systems I have learned from. Training with Prof. Pedro, Prof. Sky and Coach Alexis has really taken my game to the next level and I strongly advise you to stop by Ultra Jiu Jitsu and learn/train with the best!

Ultra is a new Jiu Jitsu school that’s in the Santa Clarita valley. But it’s not New with all the amazing coaches and professors that are teaching the kids and adults. My boys having been practicing for 4 1/2 yrs now and absolutely love the art and everything that comes with it, building self confidence, discipline, showing respect and practicing good sportsmanship. Most of all, building life long friendships and being a part in the JJ family. We couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this journey with our coaches and professors.

The reason I started jiu jitsu was for my mental and physical health, I have struggled for many years with alcohol dependence. My life was headed in the wrong direction. As I got more involved in jiu jitsu my life started to change for the best. I started to have a clear mind which gave me my confidence back. Along my journey in jiu jitsu I have met wonderful people which I now call friends. Everyday is a challenge, everyday is a new chess match, that tests my strengths and weaknesses. I hope to one day be able to teach my son the beautiful art of jiu jitsu.

I came to Ultra Jiu-Jitsu with 6 months of previous training at another gym. I was very hesitant at first, as my previous experiences had been a bit more competitive and that is just not what I was interested in. Professor Pedro and Alexis both assured me that if I just wanted to train and learn that was completely ok and they encouraged it. Competition is not for everyone, but they DO have people here who train to compete, and being able to learn from them and talk with them as well has really improved my views on a lot of this culture. I think I have been rapidly improving since starting here, I am learning more in 2 months than I did in my previous 6. Professor Pedro dedicates time at the end of every class to ensure that if there are questions/concerns, that they get answered and you leave knowing more than when you entered.

Jiu-Jitsu is really not an easy hobby by any means, but I think with dedication to yourself and your body this can be a hobby for anyone.
